![]() I got Poly Bridge after enjoying Bridge Constructor Portal, and I was really disappointed. And finally getting that build that has a dozen cars zooming and criss-crossing all over the place is really satisfying to watch, even if it does chug a bit on the Switch. There were some levels I didn't even bother with the convoy on because making minute tweaks to alter the timing so cars didn't run into each other just seemed like a pain in the ass.īut I found it to be a great game to play while watching something that didn't require all of my attention. I've seen some people complain that it can be a bit tedious when you see the solution right away but then have to spend 20 minutes building it and making tiny tweaks until it works right, and I can get that. The addition of portals adds a nice twist, throwing in a much heavier emphasis on physics and momentum than the previous game had.īut for the most part, Bridge Constructor Portal is Bridge Constructor II in all but name. ![]() You still have to figure out how to get a convoy from Point A to Point B, and you still have a variety of construction materials at your disposal to help you pull that off. But if you go in expecting more Bridge Constructor, it totally does the job. ![]() If you go in expecting (or hoping, or wanting) another Portal, you’ll be sorely disappointed. The same goes for Bridge Constructor Portal. Not an all-time classic or anything, but still an enjoyable way to pass the time. The original Bridge Constructor was a fine game. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, in and of itself. But on the whole, this is more a reskinned version of Bridge Constructor than anything remotely like another entry in the Portal series. It has some Portal-related elements, like GLaDOS’ snarky menace, the original game’s colour scheme, sentry drones, and, er, portals. I mean, to be clear, it’s no substitute for Portal 3. The reality, thankfully, isn’t quite as bad as you might expect. It’s as if someone, somewhere, wished for another Portal, and the response was, “Sure, but…” On first hearing, Bridge Constructor Portal sounds sort of like a cursed monkey paw kind of deal. ![]()
